World without oil

Closing thoughts

After “lurking” for several weeks in the World without oil experience, I decided to jump in.   I have learned a couple of things.  First, I am not, nor should I ever be a journalist!!  I have a new appreciation of those who can put their thoughts into the blogsphere with proper syntax, Capitilzation, [sic] and spelling all the while being succinct with their thoughts! I personally would like to thank all of you for your efforts of blogging, vloging and voice messages that helped drive this experience forward.

Some of us have suffered great personal loss during recent events.  All of us have struggled, not only for personal survival, but to build community.  Can we go further?  Can we aspire to build a life, a community, possibly a nation/world, that can become sustainable?

No matter what your philosophy, I think that we can agree that life is a journey.  32 weeks ago I found that I was joined on my path by a lot of really great people.  We found a way to contribute in our own way to weather this crisis.  We shared, we learned, and most importantly we grew.  Now we find ourselves in a small clearing in this forest of despair.  There is sun light here.  As we look around we notice that there are many paths that lead away from this clearing.  We instinctively know which one is ours.  And so now, after some brief parting words, we continue on.

Good friends, it is hard to say goodbye at a time when we all know that our county, let me change that, our world is in serious trouble.     t8tsoc brought us together for one purpose, to survive the oil crunch.  We have done this, and much more.  However there is so much to be done, in the areas of environmental and social justice.  WWO has clearly demonstrated that these goals can only be met through a collective effort. Yet we cannot even begin this group effort without first discovering and then embracing our personal mission in life.  As I return to my solitary path, I take with me not only fond memories of our experience together, I carry something else.   It is a question, I am sure that many of us are asking ourselves.

Where do we go from here?

Where indeed?
